FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES

The Trustees at Rangimarie Trust would like to express their sincere thanks to the following  organisations, businesses and individuals whose generosity enables them to continue providing quality subsidised accommodation to those in need in the Ōpōtiki community.

The Rangimarie Trust is honoured to be the beneficiary of the Rangimarie Endowment Fund gifted by Don and Jill Murray and administered by the Eastern Bay Community Foundation.

Don and Jill were very active members of the trust, Jill being one of the trust’s original secretaries and when Don retired, he also became a trustee and eventually the Trust Chairman in 2009. Both Don and Jill shared the view that dry and accessible housing is a basic human right.

Don was instrumental in setting up the trust’s King Street property, identifying the location and working alongside other Rangimarie trustees during the building process.

Generous grants from principal funders Bay Trust and the Lion Foundation made the successful build of the King St units possible. The four fully accessible units were opened by Mayor John Forbes on 19 September 2017 and the units were fully tenanted that same week.

The Southern Trust and the Opotiki Community Health Trust funded Heat Pumps for all Richard St units and Opotiki Appliance Plus subsidised the heatpumps with competitive pricing.

Our tenants comments say it all:

“I am so excited- it will be so much easier to keep warm and dry.”

“I can’t wait. My unit has cried all winter this year, and I have had 4 doctor’s visits because of pleurisy.”

“That is great news- a heat pump will really reduce what I have to spend on keeping warm and dry! Thank you!”

“Oh thanks- I have cerebral palsy and my feet have been cold all winter this year.”

“It will be great – a warm, dry winter – thanks!”
